Yoga Quotes and Playlist: Week of September 3 (FitCorp, Sweat and Soul Yoga)

This week marked a new start for many of us as we headed into our new schedules for the fall season. Adjusting to any new schedule takes energy and committment; making it even more challenging to be present. Each of the classes I taught this week focused on being in the moment and paying attention to the simple pulsation of our heart and the rythmn of our breath to guide our movement and relax the mind.

Lunges and warriors were incorporated into the sequence for grounding. Binds, twists and balancing poses generated the heat and challenge needed to lead us to our peak pose: full expression of eagle.

Quotes from classes this week:

“…Energy is an extension of a person’s spirit…our spirit is very much a part of our daily lives; it embodies our thoughts and emotions, and it records every one of them, from the most mundane to the visionary. Although I had been taught, more or less, that our spirit goes up or down after death, depending on how we have lived, I now saw that our spirit is more than that. It participates in every second of our lives. It is the conscious force that is life itself.”
-Anatomy of the Spirit, Caroline Myss

“Yoga allows you to find a new kind of freedom that you may not have known even existed. To a yogi, freedom implies not being battered by the dualities of life, its ups and downs, its pleasures and its suffering. It implies equanimity and ultimately that there is an inner serene core of one’s being that is never ouf of touch with the unchanging, eternal infinite.”
-Iyengar, Light on Life
