Thursdays have always been one of my favorite days of the week starting back in college. The weekend is right around the corner and people seem to have a little more pep in their step. For this reason, I love teaching on Thursdays. My students are pumped up for the weekend and are always eager to work hard in class.
I always get questions around my schedule and what’s it like to be a full time teacher so I thought I would share what I do on a typical Thursday.
SLEEP IN. On Thursdays I teach till 9pm (don’t get home till 9:45pm) so I make sure I get enough sleep to keep me going throughout the day. Sleeping in for me is getting out of bed between 7:30 and 8am.
GET MY TIME IN (8 to 10:15am). My first teaching appointment on most Thursdays is not till 11am or even 12pm so I make sure to get my time in for myself by meditating, taking a class (yoga or Barry’s Bootcamp) or running. I decide what kind of activity to do based on my energy in the morning and how busy my afternoon is.
PRIVATE CLIENT SESSION (11am). I meet with my client for a private yoga session.
LUNCH (12:15 to 1:15pm). Right after the session, I typically head to Sweetgreen and use the time to catch up with other instructors, fitness experts or friends for a lunch date.
ADMIN WORK (1:45 to 2:45pm). Yes, instructors have it to! Checking e-mail, posting/responding to messages on Facebook/Twitter, class planning, etc. This is what this time is reserved for. When I’m not having lunch date or have more work to do, I usually reserve another hour for this time. At least once a day I make sure I have an hour to three hours a day for these tasks.
TEACHING TIME (3:15 to 9:45pm)! My Thursday nights are a bit go, go, go, which I love! I teach at The Winsor School to their high school students from 3:15 to 4:30. I then jet home for a quick snack and then head off to Sweat and Soul Yoga for my 6pm cycle class. I have around 20 minutes to relax and then I end my night teaching Hip Hop Yoga at Sweat and Soul Yoga at 7:30pm.
RELAX & HUBBY TIME (9:45pm + on). I usually get home around 9:45pm so I eat a snack, shower and cool down for night by catching up with the hubby and watching one of my favorite shows, Parenthood.
SLEEP TIME (11:30pm). It takes awhile for me to cool down after teaching, especially since cycle and hip hop yoga are more high energy classes so I usually end up going to bed around 11:30 (an hour later than usual).
